77 El Camino - rtabish Camino,
just bought this baby this afternoon. 77 EC classic with 350/4bbl auto. car is by all appearances completely bone stock. has original AM/FM radio , all the emissions stuff and original AC still on the engine, and so far everything seems to work...including the power windows. looks like at some point, the right rear tire was replaced and the hub cap is missing, but everything else seems to be there. this car looks like it has been sitting for a long time, probably someone's dad or grandpa had it...i dont know.
i got this from a local car lot that deals in a lot of auction cars, so beyond this i do not know much about its recent history. i have discovered from what was in the glove box that the car was bought originally from Friendly Chevrolet in Lake Oswego, Oregon on 7/28/77 . the paint...as is expected for a mid 70s GM car, is in sad shape, with a lot of oxydation, but the sheet metal is pretty rust free, and has very few dents or dings. i havent run a compression test yet, but the engine runs smooth and the tranny shifts well. the carb idles a bit rough, but like i said, i think...

Not all of us are stunt drivers. There's a point when the factory tubs just aren't going to create enough press to grind your sled to a halt--at least not safely or quickly.

Let's say you need new brakes but don't want to take out a second mortgage to get them, and you really don't want to hassle with large, 12- to 14-inch rotors because that would require a significantly larger wheel and tire combination (which would only add to the cost). What do you do? When it comes to brakes, most guys just want something that works without all the hoopla or flashy calipers.

So what's the best of both worlds? Master Power Brakes offers an 11-inch power disc brake setup for the front of our '66 Elco. While we could have also added discs to the rear, we wanted to keep the build simple and within the...

George Suviate grew up in the Musclecar Era, in the Mecca of hot cars, in the loins of Southern California. He was sodden with testosterone, of course, and would have loved to vent some of it through his throttle foot. He dearly loved Detroit Iron, but could not afford it. Over the years, his yen progressed to rabid. George was a beat cop back then, but eventually emerged as a detective working traffic, so he became intimate with the legacy of over-amped driving, had smelled the blood and the gasoline.

Like a good cop, he soldiered on, waiting for the day it would all end and he could begin another life-this one with the object of his desire. He finally sated his passion nearly 20 years ago. The '71 El Camino you see here is George's first and only hot rod. He found it at the Pomona swap meet in 1990,...

It's not enough to stuff a big-block in the engine bay of our project El Camino. No, we have to step it up a notch. To place such a work of reciprocating art into a dirty box just wouldn't be right. Under the hood is where the real showtakes place, where the engine will live. It just ain't right to open your hood and discover 40-plus years of dirt, road grime, oil residue, tar, and who knows what else-all cradling and enveloping superb muscle. It's like eating caviar with week-old pizza-the two just don't jibe.

The engine bay should be a shrine to all things powerful and fast-a Mecca and a foundation for making more power. It should embody the time and care you take with the rest of the car. People can tell a lot about a person by the way their engine bay looks. It expresses how...

If you roll out on California 74 (a gnarly collection of blind curves and sheer-death drop-offs) all the way east to the 215, you'll run right into the Perris junction. Out there in the hinterlands, a lifetime from the Big City, Perris is usually a dry, wind-boiled patch. Except when the El Nio blowdowns swamp the Southland, and the low places in the Valley take so much water that you can't drive through it. Perris hangs by the mainstream but will never be quite in it, geographically or kulturally. Perris has its own bullring too, the Auto Speedway, but no dragstrip.

Willy Recksiek is a denizen of this town. He doesn't race on circles of clay or dirt or tarmac. He likes winging it in a straight line on asphalt. He likes being far from the festering insanity that lies behind the Orange Curtain...

No El Camino revival for the G8 sport truck - jhrody truck, sport, revival, Camino,
The Pontiac G8 sport truck has yet to receive its official nameplate, but it looks as though 'El Camino' will almost certainly not adorn the truck's tailgate, a new report finds. General Motors opened a web site earlier this year to let the general public suggest what the G8 sport truck should be named.
